For whatever reason, some of you have asked me to sell you Flappr branded merchandise. I don't quite understand why you would want Flappr branded merchandise and I've always been extremely reluctant to use this volunteer-based platform for any type of grift. We still make 0 dollars and we're not going to start profiting off of you, our loyal, decent and lovely readers.
That being said, some of you DO still want merch, so I've decided to try and give you what you want and try direct that goodwill towards something positive. So yeah, we're selling some Flappr merch and donating all proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. We think this helps serve everyone's interest - you get merch (if you want) and a good charity gets some money.
For those of you who are not familiar with Ronald McDonald House Charities, it's a nonprofit organization that's stated mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. They offer a lifeline to families with children who are experiencing a medical crisis, offering them lodging and an opportunity to remain together during unthinkable times. In 2019 alone, they provided over 2.6 million overnight stays to families with sick or injured children, saving those families $935 million dollars in lodging and meal expenses. When times are bleak, RHMC steps in to alleviate some of the burden and let families focus on making the best choices for their children.
RHMC also provides mobile healthcare units to underserved communities. I know that in Chicagoland alone - where I've lived my entire life - these mobile units go to areas and provide health screenings, immunizations and other medical care that would not otherwise have such readily available access to medical care.
We didn't make this choice lightly, there are many very worthwhile charities and vetted several of them. We feel RHMC is a great choice because of its mission and because it actually spends your donation money in support of its mission - helping families. According to Charity Navigator, RHMC is a 4-star charity and received a 100/100 score for its accountability and transparency. RHMC spends 88 cents of every dollar to actually supporting RHMC programs - which is better than most charities that waste money on overhead.
Basically - they're great, they do great work and I'm happy we're doing a very a very small part to help them out.
If you'd like to buy some merch - - check the link below. We've got a few styles and different items for men and women. If this goes well, we will consider adding new styles and designs for future campaigns.
We love you, thank you for continuing to support our community!
